Quail Diet
Quail prefer grass seeds for food during fall months, and they also can be found eating a high amount of acorns, when available, from fall through to the spring. Their diet will move to eating more bugs in the spring as well as consuming leafy vegetation. Insects will be a major portion of their diet throughout their life. They will also eat fruits and berries during spring and summer months.
Quail can only eat food that is exposed on bare soil or that which is easy to get to. They do not have the ability to dig very deep for food. Many ranch or club owners will burn off overgrowth to help their quail populations reach food more adequately.
