Chukar Diet

Chukars are typically an opportunistic feeder eating primarily vegetation. Things like grasses, seeds, leaves, fruits, nuts, and berries when available are all parts of their diet. Chukar typically do not live near agriculture areas, so they do not each large amounts of cultivated grains and seeds. Young chukar chicks will most eat a diet consisting of insects and bugs, while mature adults do not eat many insects. They have been known to eat locusts at times, however. Food sources near water are usually where they tend to congregate as water during summer months can become scarce.
