Elk Diet

North American Elk are grazing animals that eat all sorts of grasses, bushes, leaves and soft plant growth during warm months, and will eat woody growth from trees and bushes during snowy winter months. Elk will eat many low lying grasses such as clover, violets, hawkweed, aster, dandelions, and even a mushroom from time to time. Elk regurgitate their food like a cow to continue the physical digestion process. This is also known as chewing cud.
