Pronghorn Antelope
The Pronghorn Antelope is the fastest animal in the Western Hemisphere and can reach speeds up to 60 mph. And unlike many other fast-running animals, the Pronghorn can keep its pace for extended periods of time. These attributes are what make them one of the most difficult animals to hunt. An interesting fact about the Pronghorn is it technically does not have antlers – like deer – however it is the only animal on the planet with branched horns that also sheds them, as if they were antlers. Biologically, they’re similar to goats in that they have a gall bladder, but are also similar to giraffes in that they lack any dewclaws.

The upper parts of their body and outside of their legs are tan or brown. The sides of their heads, lower jaw, chest area, belly areas, inside legs and hind end are usually white. Males have a wide, black stripe on their face from their nose to a black neck patch. The horns are also black.
These Antelope have horns and technically don’t have antlers, since their horns are basically a hollow sheath over a bon-like core that arises from their skull right above their eyes. The horns are lyre-shaped and a female does not have horns that are larger than about 3 or 4 inches. However, a male Antelope’s horns may grow to be 20 inches and have a short prong jutting upwards and forward about halfway from the base. Again, unlike any other animal, the Pronghorn Antelope sheds its horn when most other horned animals keep theirs.
