Wildlife Management

Wildlife management is defined as the process and principles used to maintain wildlife populations at a level that is favorable and acceptable for the survival of a species. Hunting can aide in this by reducing overpopulation and also contributing to the agencies that are ultimately in charge of making the decisions concerning managing wildlife in an area. Hunters pay license fees, taxes, and pay for permits which help to fund federal and state agencies in charge of wildlife management and conservation.
Today, biologists and wildlife experts determine the number of animals that should exist in an area for a given species. From this they can conclude and impose limits on the animals that can be hunted and how many each hunter is allowed to kill. Responsible hunters follow these rules as they respect the animals they are hunting as well as their environment. Illegal hunting or poaching is illegal for a reason. While poaching is considered harmful, legal hunting can play a vital role in maintaining the balance between animals and their habitat.
