Importance of Wildlife Conservation

Hunting itself does not threaten to bring animals to extinction. It is an old American tradition that many people enjoy. In fact, regulated hunting helps control wildlife populations which leads to a healthy, balanced habitat. It is the irresponsible hunter who practices poaching and illegal hunting activities that threaten wildlife populations all around the world. It is important to follow hunting laws so that the animals we hunt are protected from extinction and their habitats are maintained to guarantee future survival.

Since the 1800’s there has been a growing concern over wildlife and the fact that many species of animals were disappearing. This led to government action initiated by Theodore Roosevelt to protect wildlife, their habitat, and our natural resources. Hunters today contribute to this cause by simply doing what they love. Fees for licenses and taxes on hunting equipment help to fund state programs designed specifically for wildlife and natural resource conservation. If you would like to be more involved, please take a look at some of the conservation organizations that are taking part in cause. Also, if you see someone violating your local hunting regulations, contact an agency in your area and report that individual.
