Red Grouper
The Red Grouper is distinguished by its brownish-red color, black dots around the eyes, blotches on its side that are in an unorganized pattern, the tail is squared off, and the mouth has a scarlet orange lining. The average weight is around 15 pounds but can reach up to 40 pounds and its length can reach up 48 inches. When young the fish are female, but when they begin to mature they begin to turn into males. They are a bottom dwelling fish and are found from North Carolina to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Their diet consists of squid, crustaceans, and other fish.

Black Grouper
The Black Grouper has an olive or gray body with black blotches and brassy spots on its sides. They are a solitary fish and live near the surface at depths between 6 to 33 meters. They can reach a size of about 59 inches and can weigh about 220 pounds, although the average is about 40 pounds. When they are young they are female transforming into males as they get older. They can be found in the Western Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean. Their diet consists of other fish, crustaceans, and shrimp.

Goliath Grouper
The Goliath Grouper has a broad head and small eyes, a robust and elongated body with a brownish-yellow, gray, or olive color with small dark spots on its head, body, and fins. They have about three to four faint vertical bars present on the sides of fish that are about less than 3 feet in length. The can reach lengths of 8 feet and can weigh as much as 800 pounds. They can be found in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, Gulf of California, Western Atlantic Ocean, Florida Keys, Bahamas, Caribbean, all of the Brazilian coast, and shallow tropical waters. Their mouth has three to five rows on teeth in the lower jaw and tend to eat crustaceans, other fish, octopuses, and young sea turtles.
