Flounder

Flounder also known as Fluke is typically a brown color but will also depend on the color of the bottom at which the fish is lying. They are a normal appearing fish at birth but change to a flat fish in adulthood. When they are young the Flounder has an eye on each side of its head, when it begins to turn to an adult, one eye will migrate to the other side and will look normal when lying flat on its side. They can grow from 5 to 15 inches and as large as 18 inches, their width is about half their length. Their habitat is mainly at the bottom of most warm or moderate oceans of coastal lagoons, Northern Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. They camouflage themselves by digging themselves into the bottoms using their fins to toss the bottom over their bodies usually near bridge piles, docks, and coral reefs. Their diet consists of fish spawn, crustaceans, and small fish.
