Walleye
Walleye can be identified by their olive and gold coloring. Their dorsal side is olive which grades into a golden hue on the flanks. The name “walleye” comes from the fact that their eyes reflect light, much like those of a cat. They have a large mouth with many sharp teeth and can grow to 30 inches in length and weigh up to 15 pounds. Their vision allows them to populate in deeper regions of a lake, and can often be found in deeper water, particularly during the warmest part of the summer months. Feeding occurs primarily at night since they are able to see well in low-light conditions. Walleye will feed on small fish, insects, snails, and crayfish. When walleye prepare to spawn they will eat just about anything and are not picky about what they put in their mouths.
