Sturgeon

Sturgeon can be identified by their elongated body, their lack of scales, and great size. They have a bony external plate or scale like that of a shell of a turtle, or the skin of a crocodile. Sturgeon have barbels near the mouth which house taste buds that are used to search for food in murky water. The average length for sturgeon can range from 7 to 12 feet and can sometimes reach the 18 feet mark as well. Their body is mainly made of cartilage and do not have the vertebrate spine as most fish do. They are native to subtropical temperatures and sub-Arctic rivers, lakes, and to the coastlines of Eurasia and North America.
